To ZIP a folder via SSH (Secure Shell) log in to your server and at the command line type:
# zip -r myarchive.zip myfolder
This will create a ZIP archive of all files and sub directories
To UNZIP an archive type:
# unzip myarchive.zip
Thanks a lot!!! Perfect tutorial!
Great working good, thanks a lot.
Thanks Mate – exactly what I was looking for.
Where does it output the zip file?
Thanks, helped me alot…
Thanks a lot, Michael. This is just what I’ve been looking for. BTW, you can also choose to zip all the files in the current directory using this syntax:
zip filename.zip *
Awesome! Thanks for this. Also you have one of the nicest sites I’ve seen from a server geek.
And you can download it with
# scp email@example.com:foobar.zip /local/dir
great.. thank you !
